How can the relationship between people and the world be described in times of neoliberal constraints and uninterrupted communication? And how, if at all, can this relationship be visualized using gestures of painting and graphic compositions? If according to the words of Albert Camus in »Der Mythos des Sisyphos« the absurde can be understood as the tie between the people and the world then it is Maria Schumacher’s works that can maybe for a moment make this bond perceptible and visible. They show the constant conflict between the essential search for meaning and the insignificance and at the same time they face the absurde with fearless awkwardness and in deep mistrust of the human ideals of absolute self-control or absolute control of another object.
