Texts by Werner Spies and Gary Tinterow
Neo Rauch: para was published on the occasion of the artist’s 2007 solo exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which traveled to the Max Ernst Museum in Brühl, Germany. New paintings were created specially for this exhibition, which was the third in a series of solo shows dedicated to artists’ midcareer at the Met. The exhibition’s title para appears in several of the works – a title that Rauch employs to set in motion a string of associations with the prefix: paranormal, parallel, paradox, and so forth. Available in hardcover, this bilingual catalogue (English and German) includes texts by art historian and curator Werner Spies and Gary Tinterow, the Met’s Engelhard Curator of Nineteenth-Century, Modern, and Contemporary Art. Also included is a selection of over 40 excerpts about the artist’s work over the course of ten years.
